About Devon Stable Care Collective

Devon Stable Care Collective began as a small group of horse owners who wanted everyday management to be steady, honest and transparent. We grew from helping neighbours in Bovey Tracey with basic turnout to running a tidy yard that supports long-term welfare and clear communication between owners, riders and grooms. Our yard sits at the edge of the moor, where weather changes quickly and routines need to be practical rather than decorative.

We focus on a few essential things: safe footing, calm handling, accurate feed records and open dialogue. Our clients are often people who work during the week and want to know their horses receive consistent attention without over-managing them. We document daily tasks, take short notes, and share clear summaries instead of marketing gloss.

Our Approach

Every horse on the yard has a written plan adjusted for workload, temperament and season. We observe small details—changes in appetite, hoof shape, coat, or behaviour in the field. These notes aren’t to over-analyse but to build a complete picture over time. This approach helps avoid sudden surprises and supports healthier, more confident animals.

The Collective uses a shared logbook format so each handler writes concise notes during morning and evening rounds. Owners can request copies by email or visit the yard to review them in person. Transparency keeps communication simple and avoids assumptions about what “routine care” includes.

Who We Are

Anna Rowley — Yard Manager. Oversees scheduling, feed adjustments and welfare records. Anna is methodical and values plain communication. She checks every stable before closing and prefers written updates over vague summaries.

Ben Carter — Senior Groom. Handles daily turnout, grooming and basic first-aid care. Ben believes in steady rhythm rather than haste. Horses trust him because he never changes tone or pace abruptly.

Lucy Hart — Exercise Lead. Organises hacking and light schooling routines, balancing fitness with rest days. She coordinates with owners to align training plans with farrier and veterinary calendars.

Together, the team works from early morning until late afternoon, following a consistent timetable that avoids noise and stress. Each person can swap duties when needed, but the order of routines remains the same so horses recognise what comes next.

Community & Learning

We welcome students, young riders and volunteers who want practical experience in horse care rather than competition grooming. Everyone begins with groundwork—filling water buckets, sweeping, checking fencing—before handling animals. Once trained, they may assist with feed rounds under supervision. This mentorship keeps the yard sustainable and grounded in real skills.

Environment & Sustainability

We manage waste and bedding with local suppliers and use recyclable materials where possible. Our muck-heap is rotated with a nearby organic farm for composting. Water usage is logged, and buckets are checked for leaks weekly. We support local farriers and vets within Devon to keep travel emissions low and build long-term trust networks.

Our Ethos

Everything we do aims for calm efficiency. We value respect for horses and people equally, believing that small courtesies—being on time, closing gates, sweeping the aisle—create safer environments. We avoid promises about perfection; instead we focus on visible, measurable care and quiet professionalism.

If you would like to visit or learn more about our methods, please contact us by phone at 441 271 684 905 or email [email protected]. We arrange short tours on weekday mornings by appointment only. Visitors are asked to wear suitable footwear and observe yard rules displayed at the entrance.

Devon Stable Care Collective remains small by design. We prefer ten well-cared-for horses to fifty faces we barely know. Our reputation depends not on advertising but on trust, clarity and consistent routines—values that guide every decision we make.
